It is claimed that the 3 day military diet plan was designed by nutritionists in the US military in order to get soldiers into top  shape as quick as possible. Well, this sounds pathetic. The truth is the diet is not in any affiliated with any military. The name “military” was only adopted because it was intended to give very fast result to whoever uses the diet plan.
The 3 day diet plan is a weight loos diet plan that can help any one lose up to 10 pounds(4.5kg) in a week. It has to do with a 3-day meal plan followed by 4 days off and the weekly cycle is repeated again and again until one gets the desired weight. This diet is a low calorie weight loss diet plan which people claim it can bring about significant weight loss in just one week.
The diet plan works in two stages over a period of 7 days. In the first three days, the individual must follow a set of low calorie meal plan for breakfast, lunch and dinner. No snacks between the meals. One thing an individual must know is that this diet plan is not for weaklings – because it is very low in calorie, you will feel hungry though just for 3 days. And some recommended food sound weird – like hot dogs and ice cream.
The total calorie intake during these first three day stage is expected to be around 1,100 – 1,400 calories per day. This calorie intake is much lower than the average adult’s calorie intake per day.( the average adult’s calorie intake per day is about 1,800 – 2,200 ). After the 3 days, the individual is encouraged to eat healthy and keep a low calorie intake of about 1,500 per day for the remaining four days. You can the repeat the diet several times until you arrived at your desired weight.

You are encouraged to drink lots of water to promote fat loss and flush out toxins and also help you feel fuller. Drinking of hot lemon water is encouraged too. Diet sodas and other artificially – sweetened beverages are not allowed – as they can interfere with fat loss.
Substitutions are allowed during the 3 day stage for those with dietary restrictions. For vegetarian, you can replace tuna, meat and eggs with your preferred protein replacement or any of the following ; cottage cheese, nuts lentils, quorn, soya or tofu. If you don’t like grape fruit, half a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water will have the same fat-burning benefits. Whatever you replace must have equal calories with the ones you replace.

The science behind the 3 day military diet plan
This diet plan is low in calories, fat is nothing more than stored calorie. Every time we over eat or under exercise, our bodies take those unused calories and converts them to fat. To burn these calories, we need to eat less or exercise more to create an energy(calorie) deficit. Our bodies make up the energy shortfall from stored fat. The 3 day military diet plan is intentionally made to be low in calories which guarantees your body will have to rely on using stored fat for fuel, so you lose weight.

Advantages of the 3 day military diet
 1.  It is easy and very effective for quick weight loss
2.  Each meal is very easy and quick to prepare – an ideal for any non-chefs.
3.  Unlike a typical weight loss diets, the 3 day military diet is built around foods one can easily get from a store.
Disadvantages of the 3 day military diet
1.  The strict limit on calories could put any one at risk of nutrient deficiencies, if this diet plan is followed for months.
2.  It is possible to lose 10 pounds in a week with this diet plan but you will regain the weight fast when once you start eating normally again. So, it is simply not a good diet for lasting weight loss.
The 3 day military diet dos and don’ts
Do : Follow the plan. No need to change or modify anything. Just follow the diet plan as it is written with exception of the discussed food substitutions. Be prepared to be strong! because you will get hungry but it will only last for 3 days. Follow a sensible diet plan after you have completed the 3 day military diet plan. A 1,500 calories per day is recommended for the rest of the week.
Don’t : No snacks. Most of the diets allow snacks but the 3 day military diet plan does not. Make sure you add extra 100 calories a day if you are a man. Men need more calories than women. Don’t be tempted to over eat on your off days – you will be undoing all your good work and won’t get the desired result.
