Huddersfield winners of the 2017 Sky Bet Championship play-off final

Surprisingly, it is not the English Premiership or the Uefa Champions League that has the highest prize money or is the richest game in football but it is the championship play-off final. How surprise could this be? Huddersfield, the winners of the 2017 championship play-off final bagged a whopping £170m, more than any prize money in world football. Hull city also got this same amount when they gained promotion to the Premier League through play-off last season. But that figure would have rocketed to £290m if they had managed to beat off relegation in their first season in the Premier League. Unfortunately, they did not survive the relegation battle. Huddersfield who has started their life in the Premier League for first time in their history, did very well by beating Crystal palace convincingly away from home and also defeated Newcastle united at home in their second premier league match. They will be hoping to survive the relegation battle and get that extra £120m.
The £170m promotion prize has an increase of £40m due to the rise in Premier League TV rights. This amount comes in two sections – £95m from central distributions, increased commercial activity and gate receipts. £75m for guaranteed parachute payments if the club is relegated. But if the club avoid relegation, the overall amount rises to a whopping £290m.
